Lou Doillon, a source of inspiration for Rebecca’s new jewelry collection.

With a recent jewelry launch to add to Rebecca Minkoff’s burgeoning fashion label, we sat down with Rebecca to talk about her glamorous addition to her growing lifestyle brand, the motivation behind her new jewelry collection and the women who inspired it.

I started a jewelry line because

The brand is expanding to a full lifestyle brand. Jewelry just seemed like the most natural next step in dressing the Rebecca Minkoff girl from head to toe.

The inspiration behind my jewelry line is

I wanted to create pieces using traditionally feminine or glitzy materials, like pavé crystals, and design them in a way that was less ladylike and more daring, hence the generous use of horns and warrior-esque shapes throughout the collection. I also mixed metals, like rose gold and gold, in the same pieces with the intention of layering multiple necklaces or stacking multiple bracelets together. The ability to layer on multiple pieces or just wear one piece allows you to wear it everyday and cater the jewelry to the look you’re going for.

The woman I’m designing the collection for is

A tom-boy with a hint of glamour. The costume jewelry movement all started with Coco Chanel, and catered to a very feminine and decadent customer. My collection modernizes jewelry for today’s woman – maintaining this glamour, but juxtaposing it with edgier elements to embody the new downtown girl. I started to think about inspiring women in fashion history, such as Katharine Hepburn and Jane Birkin, and what they would wear today. I’m greatly inspired by them and their modern-day iterations like Alexa Chung and Birkin’s daughter, Lou Doillon.

I would describe my jewelry line as

Contemporary with a vintage element. You’ll notice many of the pieces have an art deco look to them with retro-inspired, geometric shapes and colors. It’s a diverse collection, but every piece is designed to complement the ready-to-wear, handbags and shoes of the current season.

The thing I love most about jewelry is

I love that jewelry, without a saying a lot, reveals so much about your personality.

My favorite pieces from my collection are

I love all of them! But, if I had to pick a few, I would say the All Pavé Thinnest Bangle in rose gold and gold, the Flipped CZ and Pavé Bangle, the matching Pavé Chain Link Necklaceand Bracelet, the Pavé Horn Necklace and the Pavé Round Horn Pendant necklace.
