HOW TO WEAR: WINTER WHITE
Thursday, January 31, 2013
This winter season, we’re daring to wear white. Forget the “no white after Labor Day rule” – white is a chic pop of brightness to an otherwise drab three months of black and gray cold-weather staples.
Today, two girls from the RM ready-to-wear sales team, Megan Peters and Stephanie Hunt, show us how they work white into their wintertime office looks.
How would you describe your style from work to play?
MP: I think my style is a good mix of edgy and classic. I try not to over think my outfit, both at work and when I go out. I love a skinny jean, oversized tee and statement necklace at work, and if I’m going out to dinner after work, I will throw on a pair of heeled booties, a fur coat and put my hair in a top knot, and I’m all set.
SH: I like an edgy, downtown look with a touch of femininity. I wear my most comfortable shoes to work, then bring a higher heel for night – plus darker, more dramatic eye makeup and brighter lipstick.
How do you style your winter whites?
MP: Throw some leather on it! I love winter white worn with an amazing leather jacket – it’s a staple that every woman needs. It can be worn over anything and make you look instantly chic and put together. This 20/20 Jacket has a mix of winter white and a pop of color on the shoulders, which makes it really unique. Or you could simply top off your look with a white Mini 5-Zip cross-body bag.
SH: I like the option of a white T-shirt with a skirt and black tights, or a white dress with a black leather jacket, black tights and black booties. Today, I’m wearing the multi-tweed Nicholas Pant, which is warm for winter and festive at the same time with bright pops of white, turquoise and orange.
What is your go-to winter accessory?
MP: An insanely oversized and chunky infinity scarf. I throw it over all of my jackets and it keeps me warm wherever I go.
SH: My gloves (a Christmas present from my sister). They’re really warm but also let me use my iPhone without taking them off. Also, my Hunter boots in rain or snow. You can literally walk through three feet of slush and feel nothing!
What are your style tips for wearing white in the winter?
MP: Accessorizing your winter whites with rose gold pieces (watch, necklace, bangles) looks amazing, and is very on trend.
SH: The “no white after Labor Day” rule is clearly no longer enforced. I think anything goes, but of course, remember to wear heavier fabrics and incorporate enough black. I opted for a white Mini M.A.C. to pair with my black leather jacket and t-shirt.
What is your favorite RM piece to wear right now?
MP: My black leather Mika Shorts!
