We’ve found your summer 2014 hangout.
The Roof at NYC’s Viceroy Hotel is our new favorite spot — for obvious reasons. With its stunning views of Central Park, amazing cocktail menu and modern decor, it checks off all the requirements on our list (and we’re a picky bunch).
But one of the best things about this place is the cool and super-friendly staff. We sat down with bartender Nikki Grant to chat about when to come, what to drink and the worst pickup line she’s ever heard.
How would you describe the scene at the bar?
It’s the well-tailored young professional, the fashion-conscious business woman. All in all it’s the elite, after-work business crowd.
When is the best time to come?
The Roof is an excellent location to wind down after work and entertain visitors with the vast views of Manhattan. The after work scene is definitely our best time to come grab a cocktail and watch the sunset.
What is the worst pickup line you’ve ever overheard?
“My friend and I have always wanted to visit Russia — how about you save me the flight?”(He was alone, so it was his lower-half friend).
What’s your favorite kind of customer?
I’m a chatty person so I don’t mind a little conversation. I love out of towners that are so excited about the city. I tend to forget how lucky we New Yorkers are.
What drink do you get annoyed when people order?
A Cape Codder (it’s a vodka cranberry, people!)
What’s the craziest request you’ve ever received?
One time a guy asked me for 100 singles… He swears he was not going to a strip club.
What is the best way to get a bartender’s attention?
Wave a $100 bill (joking!) Make direct eye contact — we see you.
What do you do in your off time?
I’m a fitness fanatic so my day job is in fitness food.
What’s your Bloody Mary recipe?
Belvedere Vodka and house special Bloody Mary mixture. We can’t give away our secrets!
